September 8th - Record Enrollment at SFU Surrey Campus
SFU has made Academica’s Top Ten for enrollment growth at the University and Campus. At Simon Fraser University's Surrey campus, a record number of students are hitting the books this fall, with over 5,200 undergraduate and more than 400 graduate students enrolled at the campus. This year the campus received an average of 3 applications for every seat, compared to a 2:1 ratio last year. According to preliminary figures, close to 25,000 students are enrolled at SFU this year, up about 3.8%. 800 new international students have registered this semester, an increase of 29%. Nearly 14% of currently registered students at SFU are foreign students.

September 1st - Where to Buy: Top Ten Cities
British Columbia’s second-largest city is growing so fast it could become even bigger than Vancouver. The City of Surrey was listed in the top ten places to buy in Canada based on factors such as planned transportation improvements, or if the area’s average income, population growth and job growth are increasing faster than the provincial average. Mr. Campbell says, with two border crossings to the United States, links to five major highways, deep sea docks and four railways, Surrey is a prime location to do business.

July 16th - Colin Fraser brings the Stanley Cup to Surrey
It was a spectacular turnout at the Surrey City Central Plaza on Wednesday where the City of Surrey honoured one of the their own - Colin Fraser - who brought the Stanley Cup to Surrey. June 29, 2010 - New City Centre Designs Unveiled
As part of the Build Surrey program, Mayor Dianne Watts unveiled designs today for two of Surrey's new City Centre projects, in support of the City’s commitment to building a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly downtown core.
The Mayor unveiled architectural renderings and a model of the new City Hall and new Community Plaza, which will serve as a celebration site capable of accommodating up to 5,000 people. The projects will act as a catalyst to stimulate further private sector investment and job creation.

June 15, 2010 - City Centre’s Highest Building Receives Development Permit
A new city centre landmark, Ultra by WestStone Properties, has just had its Development Permit issued by the City of Surrey. Ultra will be Surrey City Centre’s highest building and at its 40th floor will tower over Simon Fraser University, Central City and the new Surrey Civic Centre. June 11, 2010 – New Surrey library envisioned as a gathering place
Architect Bing Thom tells The Province in a telephone interview about Surrey’s new City Centre Library. The 77,000-square-foot library features lots of big windows, grand staircases, plenty of room to move around and a centre atrium that cuts through all four floors. The Library is already under construction and scheduled to be finished in spring 2011.

June 10, 2010 – RCMP E Division Headquarters in Surrey
The RCMP E Division Headquarters Relocation Project is a major Crown initiative to relocate and consolidate existing RCMP headquarters units throughout Metro Vancouver to a new site in the City of Surrey. The new headquarters facility will be located at 14200 Green Timbers Way in Surrey, B.C., commonly referred to as the Green Timbers site. Site preparation has begun with construction scheduled to commence in July 2010.

March 4, 2010 – Lightyear Digital Donates $500,000 Digital Theatre to Simon Fraser University
Lightyear Digital Theatre (Canada) Ltd. has donated a world-class “showcase” high-definition digital and 3D demonstration research and development theatre to Simon Fraser University (“SFU”) in Surrey, British Columbia. This $500,000 donation is in the form of a complete retrofit to SFU’s existing 200-seat Westminster Savings Credit Union theatre located on the university campus.
